Mid/Senior DevOps Engineer (Kafka)

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer with Kafka experience to support the provisioning of cloud-based infrastructure for a major platform convergence initiative. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and automating AWS environments while managing Kafka clusters to ensure high availability, security, and performance.

Essential functions

  • Provision and automate new AWS environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform.

  • Deploy and manage Kafka clusters, ensuring high availability and security with TLS/SSL mutual authentication and encryption.

  • Implement Kafka MirrorMaker for data replication and synchronization across multiple data centers.

  • Manage and maintain AWS services, including EC2, EKS, ECR, S3, KMS, VPC, SageMaker, and CloudWatch.

  • Configure networking components within AWS, including VPCs, security groups, subnets, and transit gateways.

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using ArgoCD and Jenkins for automated deployments.

  • Utilize Kubernetes (EKS) for container orchestration and implement Istio service mesh for secure service-to-service communication.

  • Implement monitoring and logging using AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, and other alerting frameworks.

Qualifications

  • AWS Services: EC2, EKS, ECR, S3, KMS, VPC, SageMaker, CloudWatch

  • Networking: AWS VPC, Security Groups, Subnets, Transit Gateways

  • Kafka: Managing Kafka clusters, Kafka MirrorMaker for replication, TLS/SSL mutual authentication and encryption

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform (creating and managing reusable modules)

  • Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes (EKS), Istio for service mesh implementation

  • CI/CD & Automation: ArgoCD, Jenkins for deployment automation

  • Monitoring & Logging: AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, logging and alerting frameworks

Would be a plus

  • Experience with service mesh solutions (e.g., Istio) for secure service-to-service communication

  • Knowledge of perimeter security auditing and external authorization filters (e.g., Istio External Authorization Filter)

  • Hands-on experience with fine-grained access control and AuthZ services for least privilege enforcement

  • Background in logging and auditing for compliance and security purposes

  • Familiarity with managing external service integrations in a secure and audited manner
